Alhamdulillah is an Arabic expression signifying "acclaim be to God", here and there interpreted as "say thanks to God". This expression is called Tahmid. A more extended variation of the expression is al-ḥamdu l-illāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn, signifying "all recognition is because of God, Ruler of the relative multitude of universes", second refrain of Surah Al-Fatiha.
